Technical / Backing

One of the major reasons for our looselay carpet tiles superior performance lies in the structure of the backing.

Important tip:

Whatever carpet tile you choose, it must be resistant to extension, shrinkage and have the ability to withstand heavy traffic without warping, doming or curling. All our carpet tiles have been tested and classified by international standards and it is imperative that customers carefully assess these gradings in order to meet their carpet requirements.

By consultation with our technical representative we will ensure that the tile you choose will be the optimum for your requirements.

Backing composition

Recently, we became one of the biggest success stories of the South African carpet industry because we followed international trends in loose-lay products and committed ourselves to the exclusive manufacture of Enduroback loose-lay carpet tiles.

  • Enduroback KR4 ultimately achieves a far higher location grading making the carpet tiles more dimensionally stable and a lot easier to work with.
  • When using Enduroback, a softer feeling under foot is achieved, together with far better acoustic properties.
  • Enduroback tiles can be uplifted and taken to new premises if necessary.
  • Effective maintenance is accomplished easily with tile rotation.
  • Enduroback loose-lay tiles can be installed easily in existing office complexes, without vacating the premises.
  • The management and maintenance of high traffic wear areas can be accommodated a lot easier with Enduroback tiles.
  • Enduroback tiles are less likely to be affected by sandy screeds and can accommodate a limited amount of pitting and unevenness in the screed.

We are excited about the future of Enduroback KR4 tiles and will be developing new products on an ongoing basis.

Eco-back

VAN DYCK manufacturers a unique brand of underlay called ECO-LAY. Our ECO-LAY products are manufactured from the finest quality RECYCLED rubber granules that are bonded together using synthetic rubber binders. ECO-LAY products ARE NOT air-filled and therefore do not collapse. Their unique compound formulation ensures that the individual rubber granules are kept in close physical contact with one another to provide a strong lattice structure that is bonded to a non-woven polypropylene scrim.

Dimensional stability

Our Carpet tiles offer dimensional stability on the vertical, horizontal and diagonal planes to ensure the maximum resistance to distortion. The carpet tiles will resist shrinkage and extension under changing moisture and temperature conditions. It is this stability that also reduces the possibility of carpet tiles buckling and lifting neighbouring carpet tiles.

Strength

This is a significant benefit if carpet tiles are subjected to non-rolling traffic, such as dragged heavy furniture or seized chair wheels.

To study the gradings concerned please see our Testing and Grading section.

Fire resistance

All our carpet tiles incorporate aluminium trihydrate, a highly effective fire retardant which offers protection of property and life – a most important benefit, particularly when installed in high-rise commercial or domestic complexes.

Check the fire rating and ensure that this meets with your requirements.
